NATURE-BASED LIVING
Wild Rice Retreat is expanding! Heidi and her design and development team are bringing a new lifestyle planned community to complement the Midwest’s top Conde Nast Ranked Wellness Resort! A place to Invest in Rest and a turn-key cabin in the woods opportunity like no other. Scandinavian modern-style cabins that blend into the landscape will blend into the boreal forest and expand this holistic destination retreat for years to come.
Wild Rice Retreat expansion will follow the same three guiding principles for the Resort – Nourishment, Movement, and Expression – which are reflected in a thoughtfully curated set of shared community experiences. Cabin owners who join this unique wellness community will be able to engage in lifelong-learning through the immersion class offerings, enjoy ayurveda-inspired seasonal meals at ROOT, build community and health at the Soul Circle, Sanctuary Sauna and Spa, and Connect to Nature with an expanded trail system throughout the 100 acre woods.
Amenities steeped in cultural heritage will continue to unfold throughout the property and guests will enjoy ample opportunities for the best in outdoor adventure at their doorsteps.

To set the tone for this new chapter, Wild Rice Retreat has established a set of guiding principles for the design and development the Lifestyle expansion. This new phase at Wild Rice will be guided by ecological sensitivity, a deepened connection to nature, and wellbeing through shared experiences.
Guiding Principles
Responsible Water Management

Responsible Water Management ~
Ecological Sensitivity
Wild Rice Retreat’s proximity to Lake Superior makes very apparent the responsibility to manage water use and to consider the impacts of new development on site water flow and natural processes. The team has closely collaborated with a professional wetland delineator, stormwater engineers, and the Wisconsin DNR to ensure responsible stormwater management. Additionally, the construction team takes care to protect all disturbed earth - preserving plant life, rock overburden, moss and lichen growth, and trees. To maintain an ecologically sensitive landscape, Wild Rice Retreat limits the impact of development through careful planning and siting studies, minimal footprint size, strict limitations on construction disturbance, and reuse of site materials.
Deepened Connection to Nature
Wild Rice Retreat aims to provide visitors with a profound and deepened connection to their natural surroundings. The retreat follows a set of regulations, including those of the International Dark Sky Association for lighting, retreat-wide quiet hours, limits on building footprints in favor of preserving undeveloped land, and carefully designed architectural spaces that highlight and encourage indoor-outdoor connections.
In order to best support wildlife and landscape connectivity both within the WRR grounds and as a part of the greater surrounding area, new plantings are carefully selected from approved species lists as determined by local knowledge of the landscape and ecosystems. Cabin owners and visitors are expected to uphold these selections and recognize the beauty of the place as it is. Similarly, building materials are thoughtfully chosen for their relevance to the site, aesthetic, and durability with an emphasis on renewable and biodegradable materials. Design and construction are carefully considered for the specifics of each site’s conditions.

Well-Being Through Shared Experiences
Wild Rice Retreat visitors are supported and encouraged to connect with and heal mind, body, and spirit through a robust offering of retreat programming. Amenities are available to support this mission, and many are inherently shared experiences, including the Nordic Spa, Dining, and Yoga and retreat workshops. WRR encourages cabin owners who purchase a cabin to approach their involvement with community in mind. While individuals are encouraged to invest in small private amenities for the individual lot, these private amenities will be utilized by visitors who rent the cabin throughout the year, and it is the hope and intent of WRR that all visitors to the site will contribute to the supportive, healing community that has developed at WRR over the past decades by dining at ROOT, attending workshops and retreats, and utilizing shared amenities like the fire circles, trails, and meditation areas.
